This is the 1835 Sovereign flag of Independence of The United Tribes of Aotearoa, which is Internationally recognised for commerce and trade.  The Sovereign flag of Independence is still the official national flag of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Today in 2008, Indigenous Maori continue to embrace, to enjoy and uphold customary lore jurisdiction as clearly stated below in the two founding constitutional documents known as He Whakaputanga o Te Rangatiratanga o nga Hapu o Aotearoa 1835 (The Declaration of Independant Tribes of New Zealand) and  Te Tiriti o Waitangi 1840 (The Treaty of Waitangi).   Both, He Whakaputanga o te rangatiratanga o Nga Hapu o Aotearoa and Te Tiriti o Waitangi have been embedded in the Statutory form of Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993 (Maori Land Act 1993), and Te Ture Whenua Maori Constitution Regulations Act 94/95.

Indigenous Liberation

Indigenous Maori customary practice reflects the dynamic way in which whanau, hapu and iwi understand themselves in relationship to their natural environment, through social, cultural, political and environmental beliefs, values and practices.

Indigenous liberation is about increasing peoples awareness of native indigenous aboriginal Maori rights and issues, dealing with racist encounters positively, providing our young ones with a sense of belonging and connectedness through strong whanau Maori values, beliefs and native customary practices.

Te Reo Maori

Start small. When you hook up with Skype to keep in touch with your friends and family practice these Maori sayings:

                  Tena Koe!       Hello!

                  Tau ke!           Awesome!

                  Ka pai!            That's good!
